How to Entertain Your Kids in the Car

If you're like many parents (including us), you might be wondering how to best keep your children entertained while driving to some of the destinations in the Cleveland area that we listed last week in our blog, (Click here to check out that article). Cobos Insurance is a family run business, so we understand how hard it can be to plan out a nice day trip with lots of drive time in between stops. If you haven't come up with a plan on how to help keep your children entertained on the way there, you might end up turning the car around before your even get to your destination! We hope that this article can help you out, we have compiled a list of activities and gadgets that could help make the ride more enjoyable for the entire family. (If you're thinking of handing your children an iPad or tablet, make sure to check out our article on insuring your gadgets next week!)

Some Gadgets and Technology that can help...

Audio books can be a great tool to use on long trips around Cleveland and could be enjoyed by parents and children alike. If you choose to share a book with everyone in the car, it can typically be broadcast through your car's stereo via Bluetooth. If you would rather listen to your own book or music, you can always utilize headphones. Some over the ear headphones tend to fit children's ears better than the "in the ear" headphones.

Another few gadgets to help make the trip easier are tablets, iPads, and even iPods. Like we just mentioned you could use any of these devices to play an audio book, as well as listen to music. There are a ton of kid friendly and informational apps out there that can help your children stay entertained as well as learn some things along the way.

A portable DVD player can also be a great gadget to throw in the car in anticipation of your long journey ahead. This will allow them to watch their favorite movie, while preserving internet data on your family data plan!

Lastly, another piece of technology that you may not have thought about...a clip on book light! They do in fact still print books that you can buy at your local Cleveland book store or of course online. Most adults can remember a time when they brought a book along with them in the car on a trip, this is a tried and true method of keeping the kiddos quiet and educated.

How about some more creative ideas?

A white dry erase board with some dry erase markers can be a fairly inexpensive and entertaining tool to bring along with you. You can ask the kids to sketch out an image they see outside their window, or even play tic-tac-toe!

When you're traveling around the Cleveland area, another thing you can pick up is a sticker book or an activity book. If you want to go a little more educational, you could opt for a crossword puzzle book. Most of the time you can pick these up at any convenience store, gas station, or supermarket.

How about something a little more visual, for the kids that won't sit there and read a book? Believe it or not, you can still buy instant cameras that will spit out a picture right after you take it! This can be a really fun gadget for the kids to play with on the way to the Cleveland area destination, as well as at the destination. This can help keep the kids entertained and it can help you document the memories you make.
