How can you Save Money on your Motorcycle Insurance?

There are a few ways to save money on your motorcycle insurance, a few of them include; Paying your premium on time for a year, Being a homeowner, and insuring multiple vehicles/homes with the same insurance company. If you make your payments on time for the first policy year, many insurance companies will be willing to issue you a refund or a discount on your upcoming policy. If you own a home, many insurance companies are willing to offer you a discount upfront since it shows the company that you are responsible and able to make payments on time. Lastly, if you have more vehicles or other toys to insure with the same insurance company, most will offer around a 5% discount or more to add those vehicles on. The more you are willing to insure with them, the more discounts they will typically throw your way!

A few different options

One of our carriers, Progressive, has some interesting policy features that we would like to share with you. They are one of many companies that we use, in the end we try to find the best company to fit your needs!

Full replacement cost and no depreciation for parts

We will always return your bike to pre-accident condition or better. Let’s say that your five-year old front tire with 10,000 miles on it gets damaged. Based on the tread remaining, its depreciated value is $50, but you need a new one that costs $150. We pay the full $150 and not the depreciated value. That’s a real $100 difference.

Total loss coverage for a brand new bike

Available if your bike is no more than one model year old on a new policy, and two model years old during a renewal of a TLC policy. If it’s totaled, we’ll give you the full MSRP for a brand new motorcycle, minus your deductible.

Let’s say that you bought a bike for $15,000, and it’s now only worth $10,000. If it’s totaled, and the latest model costs $15,000+, we’ll give you $15,000+. That’s a $5,000 difference. If your bike is no longer eligible for total loss coverage at renewal, your policy will still cover the actual cash value for what it’s currently worth.

Coverage for gear and personal belongings

You can add coverage for just about all of the personal property you carry on your motorcycle if it’s damaged or stolen. This includes camping gear, safety gear and even your phones.

One of our other carriers, Hagerty, offers specific coverage for 2002 and older motorcycles, check with us to see if your bike fits their program! Here are some of the highlights from their policy.

Low Annual Premiums

One of the least expensive parts of owning a bike is insuring it with Hagerty. We know you don't ride your classic motorcycle like your regular motorcycle, so, we adjust premiums accordingly.

Guaranteed Value

Nobody knows your bike's true value better than you. That's why at Hagerty, our valuation experts work with you to agree on an accurate value for your bike up front. If there's a covered total loss, we'll pay that amount.

Exceptional Claims Handling

We handle all of our claims in-house. Our adjusters have been trained in the art of classic motorcycle repairs. Plus, we let you choose the repair shop — or we’ll even pay you to do the work yourself!

Emergency Roadside Service (Guaranteed Flatbed Towing)

Older motorcycles are going to break down. No big deal. Especially with Hagerty Plus, the emergency roadside service we created with classics in mind. Includes guaranteed flatbed towing, fuel delivery and much more.

Multi-Vehicle Discount

If you have more than one motorcycle insured on your Hagerty policy you may be eligible for a multi-vehicle discount. With each bike you add you receive an additional multi-vehicle discount, so the savings keep coming.

Freedom to Enjoy Your Motorcycle

Motorcycles are made for the freedom of the road. Our policy allows flexible usage — with no fixed mileage limits. Whether it's a ride on a summer day, attending a club event or going to a show, you're covered.

Spare Parts and Tools Coverage

Work on the bike yourself? OK, dumb question. Of course you do. That’s why we offer coverage for spare parts and tools. If you have extra parts lying around in your garage that are worth money, we’ll cover them.

Motorcycle Apparel Coverage

We’d like to see you live to ride another day. So let’s make a deal: You wear safety apparel — like helmets, goggles, boots and protective clothing — we’ll pay for it if damaged in an accident. We cover you, your bike and what you’re wearing.
